Meet Chef Stephanie Guidry: A Culinary Trailblazer Redefining Excellence

At the forefront of Twice The Spice Caterers, founded in 1997, is Stephanie Guidry, a visionary chef and CEO whose culinary journey is a powerful testament to resilience, passion, and community impact. As an African American woman in a predominantly male industry, Chef Stephanie Guidry stands out not just for her exceptional culinary skills but also for her commitment to uplifting those around her.

Her journey began in the heart of her great-grandmother’s kitchen, where she first tasted the transformative power of food through what she calls “Not Your Great-Grand-Mom’s Bread Pudding.” This delicious dish, crafted from an assortment of day-old bread, sparked a lifelong passion for cooking—one that is rooted in creativity and resourcefulness.

In an industry where only 11% of chefs are Black, and even fewer are women, Chef Steph G’s journey is a beacon of hope and inspiration. In 1997, Black chefs represented around 5% of the culinary workforce, while today that number has only modestly improved to 11%.

Furthermore, the gender disparity is equally striking. Women chefs accounted for just 17% of the culinary workforce in 1997, a figure that has only reached 19% today. This means that male chefs still dominate the industry, comprising about 81% of the workforce. The statistics reveal a stark landscape: as of recent reports, Black-owned catering businesses represent only about 5% of the total catering market in the United States, a figure that highlights the significant disparities within the industry. In Philadelphia and Delaware, the numbers are similarly low, with Black-owned caterers making up approximately 7% of the local market. This underrepresentation emphasizes the vital role Chef Stephanie Guidry plays in breaking barriers and redefining culinary excellence.

While raising five children in a challenging environment, Chef Stephanie Guidry navigated the complexities of an abusive relationship with unwavering determination. With limited resources but an abundance of love for her children, she broke free, embodying the strength and resilience that many women of color possess. Her journey is a reminder that adversity can fuel greatness, and it is this tenacity that drives her culinary mission.

“God’s grace and the love of my children and grandchildren are my guiding lights,” she reflects. After 25 years in the culinary arts, her commitment to leaving a lasting legacy—both for her family and her community—remains her core motivation. Chef Stephanie Guidry acknowledges her imperfections and mistakes but views them as stepping stones toward growth. The loss of her son 24 years ago ignited a fire within her, compelling her to excel in her craft and elevate her culinary voice.

Chef Stephanie Guidry takes immense pride in her identity and heritage, determined to prove that her talent extends far beyond traditional soul food. “I want my food to tell a story of our African Diaspora Cuisine” she says. “Every dish is a celebration of my culture and the flavors that define my community.” Her innovative approach to cooking transforms each plate into a work of art, showcasing the quality of ingredients, and meticulous presentation with that Twice The Spice, Caterers flavor she’s known for..

Over the past two decades, her family-operated business has become a cornerstone of the culinary scene in the tri-state area, standing out in a field where women chefs represent only 19% of the workforce. Chef Stephanie Guidry is a traveling chef and has catered prestigious events such as the Philadelphia Mayor's Gala, served corporate giants like Google, and prepared meals for NFL and NBA players. Her clientele includes not only celebrities and organizations like The American Red Cross but also local schools and community initiatives, reflecting her commitment to nourishing those in need.

Chef Stephanie Guidry is more than a caterer; she is a symbol of empowerment and community enrichment. She believes in the power of dreams, no matter the hurdles that may arise. Her journey is a reminder that success is not just measured by personal achievement but by the impact one has on others.

When you choose Twice The Spice Caterers, you are not just hiring a chef; you are investing in a legacy of culinary excellence, cultural pride, and heartfelt service. Chef Steph G’s passion for nourishing others extends beyond the plate, making her a trusted partner in creating unforgettable dining experiences that resonate deeply with every guest.
